The country has been gradually reducing exports of these precious minerals, which are made up of 17 metals used in the world’s most innovative new technologies, including superconductors, wind turbines, hybrid cars, mobile phones and missile guidance systems. Japan is China’s largest buyer of these rare earth materials.
